Mrs. Hickman is a long time resident of Carrolton. Her house burned down during Katrina, but she has rebuilt a new home. She has also installed the first rain garden on the lot next door! Working closely with a contractor and a group of volunteers, the site was regraded so that a long trench running the length of the property catch rain water. Layers of gravel and sand in the trench allow water to be held and slowly released back into the ground after a storm event. Thanks to “The Fields” movie crew who donated a bunch of plants to her garden, filling up the rain garden with ornamental grasses and surrounding her new flagstone patio with shrubs and trees.
